Mother's Day!

What will you be doing this Mother's Day? One thing I am going to promise myself is NO COMPUTER!! No matter how much my gleaming laptop tries to lure me over to it, I am going to resist. I don't have any other definite plans set yet, but since I am the planner in our family, even on "my" days like Mother's Day and my birthday, lol, I will be planning something.

Here is a yummy recipe from Yahoo that I thought I'd share.... I haven't made it yet, but it sounds good. I'd love to be having a slice right now, with a cup of coffee while I surf the net and try to get some work done!

Blueberry-Poppyseed Cake

You'll need:

1. 2/3 cup sugar
2. 1/2 cup margarine or butter, softened
3. 2 teaspoons grated lemon peel
4. 1 egg
5. 1 1/2 cups Pillsbury BEST(R) All Purpose or Unbleached Flour
6. 2 tablespoons poppy seed
7. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
8. 1/4 teaspoon salt
9. 1/2 cup sour cream
10. 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries, thawed, drained on paper towels
11. 1/3 cup sugar
12. 2 teaspoons Pillsbury BEST(R) All Purpose or Unbleached Flour
13. 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
14. 1/3 cup powdered sugar
15. 1 teaspoon milk, or as needed

To Make:

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour bottom and sides of 9 or 10-inch spring form pan. In large bowl, combine 2/3 cup sugar and margarine; beat until light and fluffy. Add lemon peel and egg; beat 2 minutes at medium speed.
2. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. In medium bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups flour, poppy seed, baking soda and salt; mix well. Add to margarine mixture alternately with sour cream, beating until well combined. Spread batter over bottom and 1 inch up sides of greased and floured pan, making sure batter on sides is 1/4 inch thick.
3. In another medium bowl, combine all filling ingredients; mix well. Spoon over batter.
4. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 to 55 minutes or until crust is golden brown. Cool 10 minutes; remove sides of pan.
5. In small bowl, blend powdered sugar and enough milk for desired drizzling consistency. Drizzle over warm cake. Serve warm or cool.

Yield: 8 servings

Now this isn't necessarily a low fat low sugar "healthy" cake...but for Mother's Day ( at least) I think we all deserve a slice or two, don't you?

Enjoy!

New Blogger Resource For Bloggers!

I came across a new site today that offers bloggers a great way to find other bloggers and blogs. You simply register your blog(s) with the network, and it gets added in to the network.

I really like this site for two reasons. The first is that it is so easy to navigate. I love user-friendly websites as I am on the technically challenged side, lol!
I also like how the categories are set up. It's easy to find blogs that are in the same niche as yours, so you can easily do a Blogger Search and network with other bloggers discussing the same topics on their bogs as you. They also have a forum so bloggers can ask questions, share tips, give advice, etc.

I signed up with one of my blogs, and I am really excited. It will make my socializing with other bloggers so much easier and hopefully in turn up my traffic a bit as well. The only drawback I can see with this site is the risk of my spending too much time there clicking and visiting other blogs!

If you have a blog,come check out blogoria and mingle!

Refinishing Pianos From Your Garage Or Workshop

This is a "Friday Fun" job, I think!

It is one I have never heard of before but it sounds great. Two things though... you must be the home owner of the home you'd be working from, or have written permission from the owner if you rent, and secondly this job states it is for the Long Beach area or nearby cities.

Here are the job details:

An established piano restoration shop is hiring part time and full time refinishers. You will get paid training, so you do not need to have experience in refinishing furniture or pianos. Tools and necessary equipment are also provided.

Professional piano movers deliver the piano to your garage or workshop from the client's home.

Your working space needs to be at least 10'x 15'.

You will get paid by the hour or by completing various stages of a piano. You should earn, depending on your work, between $10-$22 an hour.

If you have experience with spray lacquer, you can earn more.

Movers pick up the piano when you are done, and return it to the client's home.

That's it! Interesting, isn't it?

Visit Piano Tuning Experts to read more about this company's services.

Read the Craig's List posting here, and follow the instructions for either emailing or calling the company for further info on this job.

Good Luck!

Have You Heard The News?

I am sooo excited! I am starting a new pet business (with my 10 year old daughter as my partner!), and I have been looking for advertising ideas and such. I found this site for Photo Cards and just fell in love with the card pictured above! Now, I know it says "Happy Holidays" on the outside, but you can personalize the outside and inside of the cards with your own wording.

I love the photo on the card...it's absolutely perfect, and my daughter agrees. Now we just need to come up with the perfect wording for the front where the little dog is whispering to the big dog. I'm thinking of "Have You Heard The News?", but am not 100 percent sure yet. My daughter wants "I Have a Secret." Any opinions or suggestions? On the inside we will have the standard type of announcement wording with our business name and details and such.

But I am happy with this card, and now my mind is racing with ideas of how to use them. We have a ways to go before we are ready to launch, lol, but so far we are having a blast with all our planning and designing!

10 Careers That are On The Rise

There is a very interesting article on Yahoo today about previously little known careers that are now beginning to get more and more popular. Guess what career made the list? Blogging!

From the article, "Just 10 years ago, blogging would have sounded to most like a verb relegated to video games. But now, freelance writers, marketers, Web designers, finance professionals--even tea-drinkers--can draw people from around the world to read what they're thinking. Businesses are catching on, which is why they'll often hire people to blog about their products, and some bloggers can actually sell ads on their personal blogs. Are your personal thoughts worth paying for? They are, especially if you have education and a unique voice. Top bloggers can make six figures, and a handful are said to make millions."

Millions....wouldn't that be nice! I do know of many bloggers that are making a very nice living from their blogging careers. However, it isn't easy! Blogging requires time, and more time. But it has benefits that most bloggers will probably tell you well override the negatives
A blogger's number one necessity for success is passion. Like the above article states, even blogging about tea can do well if your passion is all about tea!

With gas prices on a steady rise, I have a feeling there will be more people than ever before interested in starting a career from home whether it be in blogging or another interest.

Speaking of which, another career on this list of rising 10 careers is that of a Personal Chef.

According to the article, "..it's one of today's fastest growing culinary careers."

If you are a cooking fiend and love making meals for others with your special recipes, you should look into this career. Busy parents that have little time for planning, shopping and cooking meals make for great clients, and There is so much take-out families can stand with food that is most likely less than nutritious.

And if you are not so much the culinary sort, there is another way you can get in on this growing career trend. Find a Direct Sales Company that offers gourmet food products etc.. that has an affiliate division, such as Tastefully Simple ( There are many, so check around)and sign up with the company.

Here is the link to the article, "10 Great Careers You've Probably Never Heard Of"

Enjoy!

Weddings, Receptions, and Creative Favors

While doing some research on the Internet today for an article, I came across this super-cute wedding favor idea! It is featured on Etsy, and I thought I'd share it. Isn't it great for receptions? Kind of like a fortune cookie but with questions such about the bride and groom. Anyway, this reminded me of the potential to create a business from home selling creative and unique products you make. I have about zero creativity/artistic skills, but if I were able to make some sort of wonderful product, I'd love to earn some money selling it!
So if you have some creativity in you, and some fun stuff you'd like to make and sell, you should go for it! And with sites like Etsy, it is easy to get started.

OK--back to researching and writing for me. Hope your Saturday is a bit more fun than mine! ACK!

When Mommy Works Bad Things Can Happen

Working on the computer can be hazardous to inanimate objects around our house. When mommy is distracted researching on the web, little boys take full advantage! I thought my two little guys were happily watching their Tigger movie, when I realized their giggles were not coming from the family room. Nope, those distinctive little laughs were coming from the upstairs bathroom. So up the stairs I went and sure enough...two little faces were staring intently into the toilet bowl. All kinds of thoughts went through my head....was some valuable wonderful object flushed away forever, or was something I cherished submerged in the water, ruined?
It was the latter, sort of. It was ruined, but it was not some cherished object close to my heart. It was an alarm clock. And I had a hard time not laughing with relief and with amusement at the contrite looks my boys gave me when they realized mom was standing right behind them!
So I have been online tonight looking for a new alarm clock. I came across some I liked at this one site for clocks , but of course I looked at more than just their alarm clocks, and I found a really cool wall clock that would be great for the bar we have in our family room! It is a Guiness clock with a magnetic dartboard on it, and I know my hubby would love it for his bar...so I think I may have just found a Father's Day present kind of by odd luck tonight!
So it could have been worse, that's for sure! I feel bad for the helpless alarm clock, but at least something good came out of it. And now I have one more funny little story to share with my boys one day when they are grown up. But I think I will move all my truly cherished objects to higher safer grounds first thing tomorrow morning!

DSL, Cable, Satellite, DialUp...Oh My!

If you are starting a home business or getting ready to work at home in the telecommuting field, chances are you are pretty familiar already with Internet Service Providers and such.
But for those who may still be a bit daunted by all the choices available today for Internet Access and Providers, there is a great site that provides all the information needed to help you make a decision when it comes to the type of Internet Access that is best for you. They also provide comparisons for the different companies that offer Internet Access, to help you with your decision.
They also offer information and providers for VOIP Phone Service, which is often required in a telecommuting position where customer service is key. Voice Over IP is a way to route telephone calls over the Internet, which makes it much less expensive. You can learn all about using setting up a VOIP Phone Service, what is needed, and companies that provide the service. Very helpful stuff!
There are many articles offering suggestions and tips for all aspects of being on the Internet such as ways to speed up your connection and tips for avoiding online scams, but one of the most helpful articles I read on there was about how to protect your email from spam. This has become quite a problem for me recently, so I read this article eagerly to find ways to combat the irksome spam that appears in my email so much!
So even if you want to know something like how to get a broadband ISP even in the middle of nowhere, this site can probably help you!

Work At Home Making Wisdom Cards From Your Computer

No, this is not making greeting cards,lol.

This is actually more like creating a reference page for visitors to this site. A Wisdom Card is a carefully crafted page linking to the very best information and resources on a particular health topic.

Each Wisdom Card is created by a guide, checked by an editor, and reviewed by at least one Physician Reviewer. When a visitor to the site is looking for information on a health issue, say asthma, a wisdom card will provide a brief description of the symptom/disease, and links for the visitor to find valuable information, articles, and resources relating to asthma.

So as a guide for this health site, you would be researching resources for making links on a wisdom card.

According to the site, once a new guide is familiar with the process, making a wisdom card generally will take 60-90 minutes.

They stress the importance of doing careful research in preparation for making a card, so that visitors will be getting the best and most updated information on a particular health issue as possible.

Here is the pay scale:
* FIRST FIVE CARDS: $10 each
* CARDS 6-10: $11 each
* CARDS 11-15: $12 each
* CARDS 16-25: $13 each
* CARDS 26-50: $14 each
* CARD 51 and BEYOND: $15 each

If your card is approved and published, payment goes into your account, and at the end of a month you have $100 or more in your account, payment is made about the 15th of the following month by direct deposit.

If your card is not approved, you will have the opportunity to edit and resubmit it.

Visit the Organized Wisdom Site and read about this work at home opportunity, check out wisdom cards to see what is required, read the FAQs, and look at the all the health topics covered.

Good luck!
