Want To Write a Children's Book?

Look what I came across today while visiting Mommy Cracked. Mandy has a post on her blog today highlighting "The Complete Idiot's Guide To Publishing a Children's Book".

Mandy's post caught my eye because, I must confess, I am a wannabe writer of children's books. Note--I said 'wannabe'-- not that I am one. But maybe one day. One day when I have time to read a book, let alone write one.

But back to the book review. This is a great one for wannabe children book writers like me. It offers practical tips for navigating the children's book publishing world as well as common mistakes to avoid when trying to find a publisher. There is also an excellent chapter on self-publishing, for anyone considering that route.

Mandy gives this book high praise, saying

"If you have ever thought of giving children's book writing a try, then this book is an investment that will more than pay for itself in the long run."

Guess what book I will be geting this weekend?? Thanks for the tip Mandy!!

Work At Home Writing Articles For Security Website

This could be a very nice resource for working from home online and making extra money at home.

Security-Guy.com needs regular contributors of short security related articles. You do not need to know about the security industry or be an expert on security issues. You do need to have good writing skills and the time and interest to create well balanced content.

They are looking for interesting two page articles written from your point of view, supported by facts and articles that you have researched.

You can submit your first article by email. The first article should be in MS word or PDF format. Editors will review it within 24 hours. If the article is accepted, you will then receive an email acceptance of the article and acceptance as a contributing Author. The email will provide you an Authors Name and Password so you can sign in and automatically submit future articles.

The best part is that when an article is accepted, the payment will be transferred to your paypal account the same day.

The pay rate is based on a 3 tier scale. The first 2 Articles $50 - each, the next 2 articles accepted will be paid $65 each, and all articles after the first 4 will be paid $75 each.

If your article is not accepted you will get an email and explaining why they could not buy the article. You'll get detail changes required before it could be purchased. You can then edit or add to the article based on these suggestions and resubmit it for purchase.

The only caution here is that Security-Guy.com will buy 10 articles every day. So you will be competing with other writers and there is no guarantee of your articles being purchased.

You can read the complete details about this extra income opportunity with Security-Guy on their website. It's worth taking a closer look at if you enjoy writing short articles.

Work At Home For The Personal News Network (PNN)

I highly suggest taking a look at this work at home opportunity! The Personal News Network (PNN) is looking for contributors/authors for their many different topics.

The PNN Network has three levels of authors: freelance, contributing, and featured. Freelance are paid on a per article basis for pre-approved articles. Contributing authors are paid based on page views - the number of times readers come to your site (currently $5/1,000). Featured authors are paid a set amount every month, and also share in sponsored ad revenues. The monthly pay depends on the category you write for (see each one for a description). A very cool thing is that PNN will match a portion of the money made by their authors to non profit organizations that support writers around the world.

PNN suggests that writers write at least three times a week, and update often.

They are currently looking for moms to be contributing authors for their Mom Group. The pay will be a minimum of $100/month. The details of how to apply is on the PNN Website, and selections will be made by November 15th.

They are also in need for contributing author for their women's Health and Well-Being Group. This would involve "keeping your audience up to date on what's current in health and wellness. Nutritious and delicious eating; workouts both outer (yoga?) and inner (meditation?); even intriguing spa treatments -- these are just a few of the topics..." You need to post at least three times a week, and pay will also be a minimum of $100/month plus a share of ad revenues.

There are more writing opportunities listed, including a need for a "How To" Craft Author with pay of $200/month. Take a look at The PNN Network if you are interested in learning more about their work at home freelance writing opportunities!

Work From Home Reviewing Blog Content

This sounds like a pretty cool work at home job. A technology website, Blorge, needs content reviewers to basically review posts across their network and make corrections if necessary.

They estimate that you would be reviewing about 8-12 posts a day. Each post is generally about 300 - 400 words. Blorge states that most posts are well written, so reviewers will probably make few corrections.

Payment is on a per post basis, and according to Blorge, will work out to about $400 a month.

You should have the following if you apply:

Enough free time to spend up to an hour a day reviewing posts
A high level of written English and a good grasp of grammar
An interest in technology
Preparedness to work as part of a team
An openness to learning

A working knowledge of WordPress would also be an advantage, but is not essential.

If you are interested in applying, send an email to writers@blorge.com and let them know why you would be suitable for this work at home job. And you can check out the blorge website here.

Good Luck!
