"L.A Parent is seeking a freelance writing and editing talent to contribute to our monthly magazine and Web site. Among possible assignments is the compiling, writing and packaging of our monthly calendar of family events for print and Web. This involves working with staff editors to create the most useful and engaging calendar of family events and destinations in greater Los Angeles area. Calendar work can be done primarily from home, although occasional visits to family attractions and events are required, as are meetings with staff in office. Calendar duties include: Research; development of PR contacts; writing and editing listings, hot tips, highlights, roundups and parenting education and support listings; and collecting appropriate artwork from sources. Must meet a monthly deadline for submitting all calendar files. Contracted monthly payment of $800 to $1,000.
Qualifications: Publication experience and familiarity with parenting topics; strong writing, editing and oral communication skills; strong attention to detail and editorial style; proactive and team-oriented attitude; and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Web.
