How Much Will You Make?
Typists are paid on a per word basis for transcription work done. The pay rate for the work is ½ cent per word. So just how much you make will depend on how fast you type, and how often you sign in to work.
According to SpeakWrite, typists with good skills will make $12 - $15 per hour after just a short period of working with them. As you work more hours and become more efficient using their system, you will undoubtedly earn even more.
Payment for all contract work is made twice a month via check by mail or by direct deposit for those living in the US. only. (They cannot do direct deposits for Canadian residents at this time.)
What Are Their Requirements?
Speakwrite does require that you have experience and meet the typing requirements of the company. Part of the application process will include typing evaluations. They will want your typing speed to be at least 60 WPM.

While SpeakWrite does conduct background checks on everyone who works with the company,this is done at their expense, not yours. Also, they will not check your credit or driving history.
- All typists live in the US or Canada.
- General typists have a minimum of 24 months of word processing or transcription experience, not more than five years previous to the date of application.
- Legal Typists to have a minimum of 24 months of increasingly responsible legal work in a law firm, not more than five years previous to the date of application.
You will need your own personal computer, reliable internet connection, sound card and earphones, printer and foot pedal. These are items you will need to have/purchase at your own expense.

Background checks are not conducted until you have successfully been through the interview process and have been accepted as a SpeakWrite independent contractor.
