Work At Home for ibw-books.com

I was recently contacted by ibw-books.com to review their interactive books designed to help children develop their reading skills. The books use the Interactive Book-Webscene (IBW) story telling process. At the end of each chapter in a book, there is a weblink. Children can visit the link to watch animations called webscenes.

My kids loved the books they received to review, and getting to watch the animated scenes at the end of each chapter was like a treat -- they couldn't wait until we finished reading to go online and watch the webscenes. If you would like to read a bit more about our experience with the IBW books, you can visit my other site, and enter the giveaway to win $60 worth of interactive books yourself!

But what I really wanted to share here on wannabe a wahm, is that IBW has a program for Book Sellers Program, where IBW Book Sellers can make money introducing the innovative multimedia IBW books the same day they host a party.

Your commissions come directly from the payments customers pay you on the day of a party, or whenever you sell a book. You take your share before you send in the orders to IBW. And this is not a direct selling program where you are also trying to have others sign up under you--no recruiting and no sharing commissions.

And of course, how you choose to run your IBW Book Seller business is up to you. Parties are not required at all. It is your business to run the way you like.

So if you are looking at Direct Selling as a business to have from home, take a look at the IBW Book Seller Program and see if it could work for you. Just a note here also--I am personally not a part of the program, and am not trying to "recruit" anyone. I just love the books, and wanted to pass on this work at home opportunity!

Tips For Making Your Home Business Successful

I came across an article today that offers some suggestions to help make a work at home business successful. The points made in the article all very good, but a couple really stood out for me, such as prioritizing my time (ack!--I need time to prioritize time--kwim?), and staying on task! Those are probably my two biggest challenges in trying to work (successfully) from home. Here are the main suggestions from the article--

1) Time management. You will need to prioritize your time ruthlessly in order to stop yourself wasting time on things that don't earn you money. Running a business means you are self employed, and not paid by the hour. So you have to make EVERY hour count. You will need to sacrifice something in your routine to fit time for a home business in. I can recommend TV time is the first place you look for that extra time you can use!

2) Believe! Know it can be done. Have the belief in yourself that you CAN run a business from home. And that people are doing it successfully in far worse situations that you currently are. If you don't believe you can do it - you're probably right.

3) Work on yourself harder than you work on your home business. Chances are you are in a home business where people are successful. That means the business works, the only difference in your situation is YOU.

4) Become Task Orientated. Know the tasks that produce you income. And do these first. If you have time for others great. If you don't no problem as long as you've done the income producing ones first your home business will still succeed.

5) Accept that to get a 'yes' to your product / business you HAVE to also have no's. Its impossible not to. Its part of any business whether its work from home or not. Don't take it personally and accept its part of the process.

6) Be prepared to step up and be your own boss. Be responsible for your own actions. Would you hire or fire yourself for the day's activities? Be honest with yourself!

Have You Heard of Pyrography?

I found a great lens on Squidoo today and had to post about it. The lens is about a husband and wife team that create beautiful art items through Pyrography.

Pyrography literally means, "Writing with Fire" and is the process of using a metal tipped stylus or"pen" that has been heated up, and used to burn impressions into wood. I did not know this before--so cool to learn about new things. The author describes in great detail the process that she and her husband go through as they create each individual art item. It is really interesting.

All of their unique creations are handcrafted out of white Maine pine, such as chests, Lap desks, wine boxes, wall boards, Pet Portrait keepsake boxes and urns, and custom chair rails.

I would love to be this talented and be able to have a home business selling my creations. (sigh.)

Start a Stork Sign Business

Competition can be a good thing, right? So starting a stork sign business may mean you will have to face competition, but that shouldn't be a deterrent if this idea appeals to you.

And a stork sign/ lawn sign rental business is a fairly easy home-based business to start up. Even starting out with one or two signs, and some word of mouth advertising could get you a customer or two.

Craigslist offers free advertising for your service, and you could design a mailer, or better yet, go to Vista Print for very inexpensive business cards and postcards to mail/hand out. Vista Print also offers T-Shirts for affordable prices that you can design. So you can "wear" your advertising when you go shopping, to playgroups, school, etc.

As far as the signs themselves, you can either make them yourself, or you can buy a package through The Stork Lady. There are several different packages offered there for starting your home-based stork sign business, so you might want to check it out.

One more important thing to remember is to check with your city for registering business names and obtaining licenses, regulations for lawn signage, etc.

Milk Money... A Mommypreneurs Advertising Resource

Have you heard of "Milk Money?" It's an online business directory (www.ourmilkmoney.com) that lists hundreds of business owners across the country who are all self-employed parents.

The "Milk Money" site was started by two self-employed mommies, Ally Loprete and Kelly Shand, and was just recently launched at the end of March after months of planning by Loprete and Shand.

The directory currently has around 1,500 listings and represents nearly 80 industries, ranging from party planning services to clothing stores. Businesses from all over America and even Canada are posted.

There is a listing fee of $25.00, which helps fund the website.

I checked out the Milk Money website, and found a couple of familiar names listed on there...such as Work it Mom!. It is not overly packed with business listings as it is a new service, so now might be the time to get listed on there.

Networking and advertising are two things that Home Based businesses can never have too much of, right?

Weddings, Receptions, and Creative Favors

While doing some research on the Internet today for an article, I came across this super-cute wedding favor idea! It is featured on Etsy, and I thought I'd share it. Isn't it great for receptions? Kind of like a fortune cookie but with questions such about the bride and groom. Anyway, this reminded me of the potential to create a business from home selling creative and unique products you make. I have about zero creativity/artistic skills, but if I were able to make some sort of wonderful product, I'd love to earn some money selling it!
So if you have some creativity in you, and some fun stuff you'd like to make and sell, you should go for it! And with sites like Etsy, it is easy to get started.

OK--back to researching and writing for me. Hope your Saturday is a bit more fun than mine! ACK!
