Tips On How To Work at Home

I just finished reading a great article on Slacker Manager called 8 Tips on How to Work at Home. I found myself really enjoying this article ( and guess what--I drank a cup of coffee as I read it, aaaand-- I read the whole article, all at one time, with no kids around! Nope--all 3 munchkins are still sound asleep, hehe, so mom got some much needed alone with my coffee quality time!!)

Anyway, I digress. Back to the article I read. David Zinger has worked at home for about 28 years, including a period of having 3 children under 2 years of age. Wow-- this is a person I am very interested in getting advice and tips from.

I can relate to much of what David writes about in his article, and a couple of point he made really hit home for me as well.

I agreed wholeheartedly when David brings up the all too true scenario of kids gone crazy and driving me nuts. I would much rather be here at home with my kids driving me nuts than stuck in my car with traffic driving me nuts. Thank-you David, for that perspective!

For me, the best tip I have right now is this: Get up early before anyone else and get some quality alone time in with your coffee cup and lap top. I can probably make this time, short as it may be, more work-related productive than all the rest of the hours in the day combined.

Work At Home as a Working Solutions Agent

Working Solutions is looking for independent contractors that will work completely from home on varying projects.

Projects can include order processing, reservations, enrollments, customer service, sales, market research, technical support, etc. Other types of project work may be added at any time.

If you are only able to do non-phone work, or can only work certain hours, such as evenings and weekends, just note this where prompted on the Agent Application. Hours and requirements for each project are different, but some do include non-business hours. For most projects, Agents schedule their own hours online, one week in advance, so hours can differ from week to week.

The application process starts with an online application. They advise you to be complete and thorough when filling this out. If you want to add your resume, you need to paste resume information into the comments section of the application---DO NOT send your resume seperately.

After completing the online application, you will be able to take part one of their testing--you can take it right away, or return later. After you complete the first part of testing, you will be given instructions for completing the second part of their test.

You will be notified by email if you have not met the standards. Otherwise, you will be notified that you are in the "pending pool" and will be considered for project opportunities that appear to be a good match with your skills, experience, home office set up, and availability. When there is a potential match, you will be contacted by email with a Project Notification, detailing the specifics of the available project. If you accept the terms and are selected for the project, an agreement will be drafted stating that you are an independent contractor for Working Solutions. It will also outline the scope of the project and required objectives. You will then be scheduled to go through a virtual preparation session prior to beginning work on the project.

Pay differs with the which type of project you are working on, but the average is from $7.20 per hour to $30 per hour, depending on the project. Income will vary greatly based on the work you are doing, how successful you are, how much work is available, and how many hours you choose to work.

Payment is through direct deposit or checks by mail, and checks are issued every other week if you have completed work.

Just go to Review Stream, and sign up. You can then write a review about anything you want...your favorite restaurant, shampoo, barber shop, book, etc.

You get paid the current rate for reviews, which I believe at this moment is $2.00. But you can easily see the current rate posted every day on the home page. If your review somehow does not fit all the requirements, you can still earn some cash for it. This is called the "bulk rate", which is the regular rate divided by 5. You can also earn revenue money for your reviews whenever they get votes by viewers.

The Real Estate Business....

Is something that can be a combination of work at home and working out of the home. Most of your paperwork, prospecting, escrow follow-up, appointment setting etc. could be done from your own home office. But you would need to plan for office meetings, showing clients homes,attending Broker's Open Houses, holding your own open houses for your on listings, etc. So it would definetly be a mix of working at home and working out of the home.
The challenging aspect of real estate, in my opinion, is the ability to present good sales techniques. In what seems like eons ago, I worked as a real estate agent. While I enjoyed many aspects of my career at the time, such as setting my own hours, working at home whenever I could, and basically running my own business, there were also aspects I never felt comfortable with---mainly the selling side of the business. I just never got the knack of being "in the zone'so to speak with encouraging potential sellers to list their homes, nor with potential buyers to purchase a particular home. I would observe other agents handle that side of the business with such ease that it seemed like it was the most natural thing in the world. Ugh. Not for me, though.
I think back often to my real estate days...I did make pretty good money, and I did enjoy the best of both worlds...time at home with my kids, and time with grown-ups and real outfits ( not sweatpants and bathrobes covered with babymilk, baby drool, and leftover applesauce stains!. I sometimes wonder if I gave up on that career too quickly. If I had been able to find the support I needed to become comfortable with the selling side of the business, maybe I would have continued on with it.
With everything pretty much available online these days, I can find Sales Training resources for developing positive sales techniques. I think 'practicing' techniques, learning new techniques, support and applicable learning experiences would have given me more confidence. And the extra added benefit of getting such training and support online while at home would have been nice. I wish I had maybe found resources back in those real estate days. ah well.
But would I go back to real estate today? Probably not. It's kind of like, 'been there, done that'. But would I recommend Real Estate as a career for moms ( or Dads) that really want to work from home? Sure, as long as you are comfortable with 'selling'...yourself first, as an agent your prospective client should hire, and secondly the home your prospective client should buy or sell. Also, I would advise someone considering this career to keep in mind that it will not be a 100% 'work-at-home' job....maybe 70%. Lastly, it is important to check out all the licensing requirements for your state, if you are considering starting a career as a real estate agent.
